I'm a Nesting Maniac

You know how every pregnancy book on the planet mentions that at some point you'll have a "nesting instinct"?

I remember when I was pregnant with L and I totally thought nesting was a myth...until it hit me.
My current nesting instinct is in full swing. I want to clean the entire house with a toothbrush (I'm not actually doing that but I wish I was). I'm purging everything I can lay my hands on that we don't use or need. I'm reorganizing and collecting all the baby goodies we'll need to have on hand a few (ahem, four) months from now. I took a load of stuff to Goodwill this morning and am headed to the children's consignment store this afternoon.

{this moment} a horse named chicken

A Friday ritual. A single photo, without words capturing a moment from the week.

A simple, special, wonderful moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Relative Productivity (and some other stuff)

So, remember that time Justine and I posted a call for submissions for the July Simplicity Parenting carnival? We decided it would be best to postpone it until August. We're taking July off in the best interest of our sanity and that of our loved ones. Yes, we realize how hilarious it is that we're postponing writing about productivity. It makes me laugh a little to think about it. When you quit laughing you can check out the new carnival schedule here

And even though I haven't been writing much this month, I have been productive. At least some of the time. I promise.

I'm growing a baby. That has to count for something. I'm being productive even when I'm sitting at my computer searching through the cloth diaper exchange on Facebook. Here's what my belly looked like last Monday at 21 weeks and 1 day.

Watermelon Harvest

I'm back! And easing myself slowly into the blogging world...consider this an almost Wordless Wednesday.
Monday we harvested our first watermelon from the garden. We're not sure exactly how much it weighed. All we know is that it was well over 30 pounds because it definitely weighed more than L.

Currently Computerless

Hello everyone!
I am still currently without a computer of my own. Hopefully I'll have a computer again by Friday but it may end up being as long as another week.

In the meantime my family and I have been fighting off colds and trying to rest at home without feeling too isolated. It's a bit shocking how isolated I feel without a computer!

Anyhow, I'll be back soon.

Hello dear readers!
I will be without a computer for the next week while it's at the Apple store getting repaired so I'll be taking a short vacation from the internet.

Have a lovely week and I'll be back soon!

Call for Submissions: July Simplicity Parenting Carnival!

**Please note the July carnival has been postponed. Our July topic is now our August topic!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the June Simplicity Parenting Carnival! It was a great success! We hope you'll join us again, Justine at The Lone Home Ranger and Emily at S.A.H.M. i AM, for another simplicity parenting carnival.
July 2012: Productivity
Living simply might seem simple at first but it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the countless things you can do to simplify your life. How do you balance simplicity and productivity? How do you remain productive and maintain a slower pace of life? How do your children help and hinder your productivity?
We’d love to know how you balance (or attempt to balance) simple living, productivity, and parenting. Share your experiences with us this month!

My Creative Family: Sometimes Messy, Always Fun

Welcome to the July 2012 Carnival of Natural Parenting: Family Creations
This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Hobo Mama and Code Name: Mama. This month our participants have shared crafts, recipes, and philosophies of creativity. Please read to the end to find a list of links to the other carnival participants.

I have to admit when I think about my family being creative, I automatically assume there will be a mess involved. A lot of the time that's just how it works around here.
We make messes when we play with playdough. We make messes with paint. Sometimes the painting is more messy than others. Sometimes it's almost organized. See that photo? Painting doesn't usually look like that. More often it looks like this. Most times I embrace the mess and simply try to make it as easy to clean up as possible. I know anytime we play with the tabletop beach or gak, there will be a lot of wiping up to do.  Most painting sessions end with a bath or a run through the sprinkler. No big deal.

Thoughts on Watermelons and Babies

I realize it's been a long time since I've shared anything personal. It's easier to share recipes and photos. Like this one. Our watermelons are growing like crazy. I feel like I can sit and watch them expanding. Much like my belly. I can feel it getting bigger by the minute.
But I can still see my toes so that's nice. Only for a little while longer...

Peach-Habanero Jam (Or, Adventures in Jam Making)

Two Sundays ago I ventured into the world of jam making for the first time. So far as I can tell the results were amazing. I can't wait to make more jam. I'm only waiting on the arrival of my "real" canning pot and rack...when it arrives there will be many more Sunday morning jam making sessions. I've been using a make-shift canning set-up and my canning life will be greatly simplified by the arrival of a real canning pot.
But as I was saying, my first foray into the jam making world: peach-habanero jam.

Yum! We made a few jars to use right away and processed the rest in a boiling water bath for longer term storage. The eat-right-away jam was fabulous. As long as the other jam sets up okay it should be wonderful too. The jars seemed have sealed correctly so I'm hopeful they will be fine. We'll have to open and test one soon!
